The Swiss painter Samuel Buri was born in Täuffelen and has been working in Basel and Habkern the Bernese Uplands sine 1980. He moved to Paris and Burgundy in 1960, where he detached himself from the traditional style of painting from his university years. French impressionists and the multi-panel, decorative style of the late impressionists such as we know them from works by Ferdinand Hodler, influenced Buri’s works. Buri later turned to abstract painting, and found his style in geometric lines and organic surfaces, a strict image structure and decorative play of colours. His designs of the characters of the Zurich Bible, held in this style, became widely known.
