The painter and graphic artist Victor Vasarely was born in Pecs, Hungary. In 1930 he moved to Paris. He is the main representative of Op Art, an art movement developed in the middle of the 1950s. Geometrical patterns such as squares, rhombi, triangles and circles form the basics of his artistic craft. Through crafty arrangement of these he created optical effects such as flickering and movement. Victor Vasarely has won numerous international art awards and has taken part in the documenta I, II, III and IV in Kassel. Vasarely museums can be found in Aix-en-Provence in France and in his city of birth Pecs, as well as in Budapest in Hungary. Vasarely’s son Jean Pierre came to fame of his own under the alias Yvaral.
