Jean-Pierre Vasarely, who called himself Yvaral, is the son of Victor Vasarely. He worked with his father in Paris and discovered the beauty of graphic and geometric forms in the arts. Yvaral created his designs on a computer, using digital picture editors, yet subsequently painted them in traditional fashion. By these means he changed known portraits to the point at which they were perceived as abstract works. He co-founded the group Recherche d’Art Visuel (Visual Art Research), with which he exhibited worldwide, and is classed amongst Op Art and kinetic art artists. In 1964 he took part in the documenta III.
